Intrinsic size sample

Image of a circle, square, and triangle, and assorted text fonts. Circle center

The GIF image above appears at its intrinsic size, i.e. no height or width has been specified in either the HTML or the CSS.  If you refresh this page and are using a slow connection, you may see this text 'jump' downward after your browser downloads the image and learns what size it actually is.  (Once you've visited this page, you may have to clear your browser's cache in order to reproduce the effect.)

Image of a house with a grass lawn and adjacent trees. Top center window

Again, the JPEG image above appears at its intrinsic size, i.e. no height or width has been specified in either the HTML or the CSS.  If you refresh this page and are using a slow connection, you may see this and the precceding text 'jump' downward after your browser downloads the images and learns what size they actually are.

While you're here, note that each of the above images contains a 'hot spot' defined by a client-side image map.  In the GIF, it's the center of the red circle; in the JPEG, it's the top bay window under the center of the peaked roof.  Note that when you place your mouse pointer over these areas (most browsers) you get a visible indication that there is a link at these points.  Contrast that with the results you get on the Dynamic size sample page.
