Image size samples

The samples on the following pages show the effects of various image sizing specifications.

Image types

Two type of images are used in the samples:

GIF

GIF images are characterized by relatively few colors (256 maximum) and sharp transitions between adjacent pixels.  This makes removed or duplicated rows and columns quite conspicuous.  The sample image contains some geometric shapes and text in an assortment of fonts.  It's inherent size is 500 X 500 pixels.

JPEG

JPEG images are characterized by many colors and smooth transitions in color and intensity between adjacent pixels.  Depending on the image content, this may make removed or duplicated rows and columns relatively inconspicuous.  The sample image shows a man-made object (a house) with a significant number of straight lines, along with some natural elements (trees, grass) which are more amorphous. It's inherent size is 500 pixels wide X 326 pixels high.
